A hot day, a lot of layout activity

By stanford - Posted on 22 November 2009

Today was a scorcher! Typical Aussie summer weather. The maximum temperature forecast for today was 39 degrees C (around 100 degrees F). I reckon it felt like it was too. The humidity didn't help. And the fact that the garage that the layouts are in has no insulation and a (hot in summer cold in winter) tin roof probably added at 5 to 10 degrees to the temperature while working on the layouts

In spite of the heat, a lot of things got done on the layouts today.

On the operating front, early in the day (when it was plesantly cool) I had a decent operating session on the 3 layouts including some virtual interchange traffic. I realized that the C&SFT had too many cars on it, so I did some shuffling of cars between the C&SFT and Chatham layouts and I think I have got the mix about right now.

On the construction front, I finished the sign for Illinook, and the fascia for Chatham, and started on the stone bunker details for Illinook. Before I was able to make the sign for Illinook I had to go to Bunnings and buy some black paint, and some more PVA glue in anticipation for adding various scenic features to the Illinook and Chatham layouts over the coming weeks. The last thing I did for the day was put a backdrop on the 3rd side of Illinook.

Then I was getting too hot and bothered so I stopped for the day.
