The Big Day Arrives!

By stanford - Posted on 22 July 2008

Tomorrow (July 22nd 2008) is the big day! Over the last few weeks I have been preparing the 'new' layout (really just the 4 modules I am keeping of my 'U' 17 x 8 feet C&SFT layout) and working out how I am going to put them in the trailer for the Big Move. And tomorrow I pack the trailer with the layout, and the van with other belongings.

I have decided to fasten the three 6 feet modules together using wooden boards, and allow the trailer sides and wooden boards to keep the layout rigid for the trip. The plan is to buy a reasonable sized tarpaulin and put it over the layout modules and trailer once the layout modules are fastened together, and then put a trailer net over the tarpaulin. The tarpaulin and trailer net will be fastened to the trailers frames. I tried a similar approach to this with a previous layout over a distance of about 100kms (60 miles). I am hoping I can refine the system a little for this trip.

Then Thursday 23rd July 2008 I head off into the unknown somewhat. This move will be a record for me. It will be the longest distance I have ever tried to move a layout at about 1000kms (600 miles). The previous record distance for me moving a layout was about 400kms (about 250 miles). Hopefully records are the only things broken on the trip!

Best wishes on your new adventures! Keep us posted on your progress with the new railroad.

Regards,
Scott
