Multi-Operator Op Sessions and Layout Plans

By stanford - Posted on 23 October 2008

Last Tuesday I had the opportunity to see how the new configuration for my layout handled more than one operator. And I am glad to say that it is still able to be operated by more than one person at a time.

The model railroading group I am a member of asked me to host the October meet. There were 5 of us in attendance all up, and 2 of us operated the layout while the other three 'railfanned' or chatted about trains and other things.

I figured that the layout could have three operators at a time even in it's current smaller format. Having two operators moving trains at the same time is 2/3 of the way there!

I suspect that being able to keep three operators busy might require some expansion of the layout, but including the detached upper deck featuring a totally separate railroad which I have planned would keep three operators busy without any problems. I have thought over the planned upper deck idea, and have also realized that I can have the upper deck as a totally separate railroad, or I can make the track plan on that deck so that I can attach it to the Forest Junction end of the layout giving the C&SFT a longer run.

Either way, it means three operators will be very possible once the planned upper deck is operational.

very nice article thank you very much....

Very good informations , thanks...
